Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is striving to avoid both.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
